About the team The Dukettes are the official award-winning dance team of James Madison University. The Dukettes are model representatives of JMU and serve as ambassadors for the university.
The rigorous season as a Dukette begins with summer practices in mid-July, in preparation for the upcoming season. The team attends the National Dance Alliance Collegiate Dance Team camp in August, where they learn various routines and participate in team bonding exercises. Before the school year begins, the Dukettes also attend the Marching Royal Dukes' Band Camp, which takes place the week before classes begin. During the regular season, the Dukettes practice Monday through Friday, for a minimum of 2 hours each day, which they earn school credit for. The team performs during halftime with Virginia's Finest at each home football game. In addition, they perform at every home basketball game, make various appearances, and travel with the Marching Royal Dukes throughout the fall season. These performances include community, university, national, and international events. The rigorous and rewarding season culminates in April with a trip to Daytona Beach, Florida, where the nationally acclaimed and award winning team competes at the National Dance Alliance Collegiate Championship. The JMU Dukettes hold National Titles in Division I Jazz from 2015, 2016, 2018 and are the 2021 Virtual Jazz Division I Champions. While it is a huge commitment, being a part of the JMU Dukettes is an unforgettable and rewarding experience. |
